The Coronavirus Pandemic: Fact, Fiction And Common Sense

When I am presented with an issue or a problem, I automatically go into critical thinking mode. In my mind I identify the problem and think of all the possible solutions. If it is a social problem that is in process, I immediately implement de-escalation procedures; including removing myself from the situation. If it is something I am aware of that is a potential problem or danger, I implement or practice preventative measures; including not putting myself in a situation that is personally harmful. If it is something that has already occurred, I think of all possible solutions and go into action to attempt to solve the problem.

Currently there is a major concern about the health crisis evolving worldwide with respect to the Coronavirus (“COVID-19”) that originated, according to authorities, in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, but is being contracted by people in other parts of the world outside of the identified origin. Remember that information is key. Gathering the information from credible sources is the appropriate thing to do as misinformation propagated only creates panic, chaos and other unnecessary problems.

While most cases of COVID-19 present with mild or moderate symptoms, some people (e.g., the immunocompromised, pregnant women, children, the elderly, those with underlying health conditions) are particularly more vulnerable to developing serious illness from COVID-19.

Don’t panic but rather use common sense. Panic creates hysteria that causes other problems such as depleting the stores of necessary supplies, overburdening our emergency response and healthcare systems, crippling the economy, etc.

However, please be aware that according to the CDC, there is no vaccine to protect against COVID-19 and no medications approved to treat it at this time.

Therefore, officials are recommending that the public frequently wash their hands, opt for verbal salutations instead of those with personal contact (i.e., hugs, high fives and handshakes) and to try to maintain a distance of six (6) feet from strangers. I have ALWAYS practiced the foregoing and people have always laughed at me and mislabeled me a “germophobe” when in reality I was just protecting my health. Those people are no longer laughing! If you don't need to travel as a necessity right now such as a requisite business trip, don't travel. If and when possible, avoid areas where there are large groups of people for now. This is all just common sense.

Below is an excerpt of information I gathered from the official source Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) updated as of March 3, 2020. It is neither a full nor comprehensive statement from the CDC about the virus but rather information I have pulled which I consider to be important.

BACKGROUND

CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in China and which has now been detected in almost 70 locations internationally, including in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “corona virus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). On January 30, 2020, the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a “public health emergency of international concern external icon” (PHEIC). On January 31, 2020, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar II declared a public health emergency (PHE) for the United States to aid the nation’s healthcare community in responding to COVID-19.

SOURCE AND SPREAD OF THE VIRUS

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in people and many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV, and now with this new virus (named SARS-CoV-2).

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a betacoronavirus, like MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV.  All three of these viruses have their origins in bats. The sequences from U.S. patients are similar to the one that China initially posted, suggesting a likely single, recent emergence of this virus from an animal reservoir.

Early on, many of the patients at the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China had some link to a large seafood and live animal market, suggesting animal-to-person spread. Later, a growing number of patients reportedly did not have exposure to animal markets, indicating person-to-person spread. Person-to-person spread was subsequently reported outside Hubei and in countries outside China, including in the United States. Some international destinations now have apparent community spread with the virus that causes COVID-19, including in some parts of the United States. Community spread means some people have been infected and it is not known how or where they became exposed. Learn what is known about the spread of this newly emerged coronaviruses.

SITUATION IN U.S.

  • Imported cases of COVID-19 in travelers have been detected in the U.S.
  • Person-to-person spread of COVID-19 was first reported among close contacts of returned travelers from Wuhan.
  • During the week of February 23, CDC reported community spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 in California (in two places), Oregon and Washington. Community spread in Washington resulted in the first death in the United States from COVID-19, as well as the first reported case of COVID-19 in a health care worker, and the first potential outbreak in a long-term care facility.

ILLNESS SEVERITY

Both MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV have been known to cause severe illness in people. The complete clinical picture with regard to COVID-19 is not fully understood. Reported illnesses have ranged from mild to severe, including illness resulting in death. While information so far suggests that most COVID-19 illness is mild, a reportexternal icon out of China suggests serious illness occurs in 16% of cases. Older people and people with certain underlying health conditions like heart disease, lung disease and diabetes, for example, seem to be at greater risk of serious illness. There are ongoing investigations to learn more. This is a rapidly evolving situation and information will be updated as it becomes available.

CDC RESPONSE

Global efforts at this time are focused concurrently on containing the spread and mitigating the impact of this virus. The federal government is working closely with state, local, tribal, and territorial partners, as well as public health partners, to respond to this public health threat. The public health response is multi-layered, with the goal of detecting and minimizing introductions of this virus in the United States. CDC is operationalizing all of its pandemic preparedness and response plans, working on multiple fronts to meet these goals, including specific measures to prepare communities to respond to local transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19. There is an abundance of pandemic guidance developed in anticipation of an influenza pandemic that is being repurposed and adapted for a COVID-19 pandemic.

END OF CDC INFORMATION

Please protect and take care of yourself. And God bless you.

Party Time At Muscle Beach In Venice, California USA

Time to hang out with my good friend Lee Priest.

Congratulations Lee for the upcoming recognition for something you love so much and are damn good at; even though you criticized my abdominal crunch techniques on the yard at World Gym Venice years ago. Remember ya damn bastard? Ha ha. See you soon brother. Love you!

Lee Priest: Perspective And Mind Over Matter For The Competitive Edge

My close friend for life Lee Priest puts competitive bodybuilding in its proper perspective. He and I bonded very closely years ago over our mutual boldness to speak our minds, our unwillingness to be silenced, our mental strength and our love for transformation through lifting weights.

The Kobe Bryant Memorial Service At Staples Center Los Angeles

To my worldwide audience, this is the video of the memorial service of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and his young daughter Gianna Bryant that took place today in Los Angeles, California USA. If you did not watch it on TV, watch it now. If you have watched it already, re-watch it. What is the message or messages you are receiving as you take in the totality of this story?

I believe that God uses the life of celebrities and well known people to convey messages to the masses. When something happens to a well known person as opposed to a person who is not well known, the event that occurred puts a vast and immediate spotlight either on the subject matter related to the event or that caused the event (e.g., drug use, murder, terminal illness, catastrophic accidents, etc.). And as a consequence of the event, the life and/or life choices of the well known person are put into focus by the media to the masses.

Kobe Bryant was just a young boy whose interest morphed into a passion that he methodically honed into a talent through hard work and focused determination. His journey along the way is the real story as partially eloquently portrayed in his Oscar Award winning animated short film Dear Basketball that he penned (i.e., wrote). His incredible basketball career, albeit the center of the story, is only partially the story of his life journey. In his personal life, the love he had for the family he created and the lessons he learned as a result is the rest of the story. It is no mistake that Kobe had four daughters instead of sons. If Kobe had fathered a son, the story would have been too predictable. It was God's plan to bring worldwide attention to the disparity in rights and privileges of men over women by using Kobe's status as a girl dad, his celebrity and his basketball fame as the platform. It was God's plan to use Kobe's celebrity to bring attention to the importance of compassion, love and family. It was God's plan to use Kobe's path to his stellar career through Kobe's voice and through his story as an instrument of hope and inspiration for the lost, hopeless, self-doubters and anyone feeling less than.

So when you ask yourself why, know that everything, and I mean everything, is according to God's plan. Kobe Bryant was God's soldier fighting the good fight and what we perceive as an untimely death is really just Kobe Bryant's tour of duty coming to an end. His death is the event that put the spotlight on all of God's messages that I wrote about here today.

I'll Be The Greatest Fan Of Your Life

This is a beautiful, meaningful love song and one of my favorite songs of all time. If someone loves you like this, don’t ever take it for granted. And if you love someone so much it hurts and feels good at the same time, hold on to that special feeling forever. I loved music producer Scott B. Humphrey like this but at the time he loved drugs, the Rock N Roll lifestyle and his friendship with Tommy Lee of Motley Crue more than he loved me. And after all, Tommy Lee is the one who introduced me to Scott at Can Am Recording Studio in the first place. "Jacqibone" (Tommy gave me that nickname) "date my friend" he said. And that I did. Scottie and I had our time but it was dramatic, short lived and fleeting so I let it go. And here I sit, writing this blog posting...

There are so many different types of love: self-love, spiritual love, romantic love, parent/child love, family love, friendship love, the love you have for your pets, etc. In the end, all that matters is love. Even when someone you love has passed away, that beautiful love stays with you.

Sending love to all my readers this week in the USA, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Czechia, Russia, Ukraine, Netherlands, France, Ireland, Portugal, Indonesia and the U.K.

Happy Valentine's Day.

A Healthy Functioning Heart Is A Blessing

In 2015 after my beautiful, late father had a severe ischemic stroke, I would put my ear to his heart just to listen to his heartbeat. It was my way of connecting my soul with his knowing that things were not good.

I am a proponent for health, education and research as well as advances in medical technology. Most people do not care about medical research until something goes wrong with their body or the body of someone they love. So let's stop spending so much time taking and admiring egotistical selfies and allocate some time to things that actually matter for the betterment of society and humanity.

A Piece Of My Hollywood Life With Comedian John Witherspoon

World audience, I have had this incredible, unbelievable journey here in Los Angeles, California USA; a journey that most would only dream of. And much of my journey includes a personal and professional life surrounded by and involved with the rich and famous. Why is it unbelievable? It is because I am just a regular person who went to college, works and was born of immigrant parents from very humble beginnings who endured many hardships so I could have a better life. To my longtime friend Patrick Knapp (Schwarzenegger), I know your proud journey from Austria to American Citizenship because my parents had a similar journey from Costa Rica to American Citizenship by proper legal process. Despite my humble beginnings, I still found myself in Italy with Sylvester Stallone and crew for the filming of a motion picture, in deep conversations and laughter with Rock Star Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, flirting with Rock Star Gene Simmons of KISS, dancing on stage with R&B legend Eddie Levert of the O'Jays and countless other experiences you will read about one day in my upcoming autobiography. And one of my best Hollywood experiences was my friendship with actor/comedian John Witherspoon who I sadly found out while watching the Oscars last night passed away recently of a heart attack. I met John "Pops" Witherspoon years ago at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, CA USA while I was traveling on the comedy circuit with actor/comedian Jimmy "JJ" Walker. Jimmy had gotten on my nerves that night so I told him off and as I was walking out the door of the Laugh Factory I said "I need a cab." And there was John Witherspoon waiting for the valet to bring his black Range Rover around and laughing his ass off saying "No you didn't tell that little ugly man off. Baby, I'll take you anywhere you need to go." And there began my very close friendship with John Witherspoon; the best friend of famed talk show host David Letterman.

I will write more about my close friendship with John Witherspoon in my upcoming book. For now, rest in eternal peace "pops". I will never forget the fun and laughter you brought into my life, to your peers and to the millions of fans who watched you perform on stage, on TV and on the big screen.

The Untimely Death Of Kobe Bryant

On January 26, 2020 at approximately 2PM PST I received a call from my mother who informed me that news was breaking that Kobe Bryant had passed away. It caught me off guard and my reaction was disbelief. “Are you sure?” I asked and she replied “Yes, it is all over the news.” My mother had a soft spot for Kobe as she had met him in person years ago at PF Chang’s in Newport Beach, California USA. My mother is from Costa Rica and she is not a big basketball fan but she definitely knew at that time that Kobe was the star of the Los Angeles Lakers and very famous. I had just left the restaurant with my boyfriend and didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Kobe that day but ever since my mother loved Kobe. She didn’t love him because of his amazing basketball skills, his fame, his fortune, his success nor any of all of the other inspirational things that he was. She loved him only for the way he treated her that day their paths crossed at PF Chang’s. She told me he was humble and kind. She said he signed an autograph for her on a PF Chang's napkin, put his arm around her shoulder then proceeded to have a warm, friendly conversation with her.

I, on the other hand, am an avid Lakers fan and like millions of Angelinos and fans around the world am deeply saddened by this terrible news. The one thing I know for sure is that life has a beginning and an end and we don’t get to choose the end; that is within God’s almighty power. It brings me great solace to know that on the day of the accident just hours before they perished, Kobe and his daughter attended Catholic Mass and received Holy Communion (a symbol of the body and blood of Christ) at the Cathedral of Our Lady Queen of the Angels in Newport Beach, California USA. Some people are non-believers or think that it is not cool to be spiritual but this tragic event is proof positive that death comes without warning and we must be aware of our mortality and spirituality. I respect all religions and even the positions of non-believes but I will still leave you with these words...

IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH THAT JESUS IS LORD AND BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, YOU WILL BE SAVED. FOR IT IS WITH YOUR HEART THAT YOU BELIEVE AND ARE JUSTIFIED AND IT IS WITH YOUR MOUTH THAT YOU CONFESS AND ARE SAVED.

I pray for all of the souls of the victims who perished in this tragic accident: Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Christina Mauser, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester and Ara Zobayan. And I pray for the pain of their surviving family members.

Your Walk On Planet Earth

I am not a negative person but rather one who sits and observes. I have always had the awareness that in time all truths shall be revealed. And that what is done in darkness shall be revealed in the light. Throughout my journey in this beautiful God-given life I have witnessed and experienced great miracles. I have, in great contrast, also seen the worst of humanity; the lowest of the low spreading the seed of sin in the depths and chasms of evil. And with the passage of time I know, and have known, through faith, one thing for sure... that I believe in almighty God. I feel His essence through the Holy Spirit. I am not here to convince you but only to bear witness, testify and share with you what I know and feel. And that is, that all good things come from above starting with the inexplicable feeling of pure love. I know that God's word is the moral compass set in stone for mankind to obey and that all deviations thereof will most certainly lead to chaos, entropy, decay and destruction. And so I leave you with just a few simple but powerful words that are required of you by our heavenly Father: ACT JUSTLY, BE MERCIFUL AND WALK IN HUMILITY.

Ricki Lake: Troubled Hair, Don't Care

I use to date this really affectionate guy, Christian Evans. He was a jewelry designer who hailed from Arizona. I had no idea at the time that he would later marry and divorce actress and former talk show host Ricki Lake and sadly commit suicide some years later in February of 2017. I have always had this connection to fame through my personal life and career in entertainment. And I have always had a connection to, and deep understanding of, people in pain. Even though we stayed connected for a long time, I never allowed my relationship with Christian to flourish and we eventually lost touch. When I started writing my autobiography I looked for Christian and that is how I found out he had married Ricki Lake. Every time I hear about Ricki Lake now, I think of my intimate relationship with Christian Evans and his sad, tragic death.

Here is a personal, painful story from Ricki Lake that I am posting in the hope that it can help others with similar issues.

Liberated and Free, Me. First things first, I am not sick. (THANK GOD.) I am not having a mid-life crisis. nor am I having a mental breakdown, though I have been suffering. Suffering mostly in silence off and on for almost 30 years. AND I am finally ready to share my secret. Deep breath Ricki…. Here goes….. I have been struggling with hair loss for most of my adult life. It has been debilitating, embarrassing, painful, scary, depressing, lonely, all the things. There have been a few times where I have even felt suicidal over it. Almost no one in my life knew the level of deep pain and trauma I was experiencing. Not even my therapist/s over the years knew my truth. I know that by sharing my truth, I will be striking a chord with so so many women and men. I am not alone in this and my goal is to help others while at the same time unshackle myself from this quiet hell I have been living in. Ever since I played Tracy Turnblad in the original Hairspray back in 1988 and they triple-processed and teased my then healthy virgin hair every 2 weeks during filming, my hair was never the same. (Yes, that was all my own hair in the film.) From Hairspray to Hairless. :( In my case, I believe my hair loss was due to many factors, yo-yo dieting, hormonal birth control, radical weight fluctuations over the years, my pregnancies, genetics, stress, and hair dyes and extensions. Working as talent on various shows and movies, whether DWTS or my talk show, also took its toll on my fine hair. I got used to wearing extensions, really just over the last decade. All different kinds, tried them all, the ones that are glued on, the tape-ins, the clip ins, and then into a total hair system that I hated, and finally to a unique solution that really did work pretty well for me for the last 4 or 5 years. I tried wigs on a few occasions but never could get used to them. It all felt fake and I was super self-conscious and uncomfortable. I’ve been to many doctors, gotten steroid shots in my head, taking all the supplements and then some. My hair would recover and then shed again. It was maddening. Sound Advice From Jesse Meester

Jesse Meester is at Catalina Island.
Visiting #CatalinaIsland today before I head back to NYC again. I was thinking how #2019 went by quick, but so will #2020. Last year was showtime, this year is practice. It’s time to control your new year which starts with controlling your mind by regulating the thoughts that you choose to dwell upon. ⁣

Your thoughts determine your actions, and your actions determine the life that you live. For 2020 I leave you with this: control your own destiny. It’s your decisions, your outcomes, your life. No victim, but victor. You are in control over yourself, nobody else is.⁣⁣

No one has power over you unless you give it to them, you are in control of your life and your choices decide your own fate. ⁣⁣

Much love to you! Thanks for all your continued support @meesterstore and coaching @meesterpt which allows our company to scale philanthropy each year. ⁣⁣⁣

A Clean Life Is The Best Life

Drug and/or alcohol addiction is a deceptive, destructive force that can change the trajectory of your life. Don't defile your body with excessive alcohol consumption and/or misuse of recreational/prescription drugs. Your body is your temple. You only get one life so make the choice to live a clean, beautiful life.

Congratulations to Mike Sorrentino for coming out of a very dark place and using his celebrity to inspire others with his story.

You don't have to be a celebrity to breed hope and inspiration so give your pain a purpose. Use your pain to help others.

Representative Jim Jordan Mastering The Interrogation At The Impeachment Hearing

I am very passionate about fighting corruption at all levels in all arenas through identification, exposure, investigation and prosecution. I excel at catching liars telling lies. I also excel at dismantling dishonest individuals and entities who, for ulterior motives, spin false stories to make something appear to be something it is not. Why? For integrity; one of my core values. False stories are birthed and propagated through knowingly false statements, false documentation, falsified reports, hearsay, perjury, witness tampering, evidence tampering (i.e., manufacturing evidence, disposing of evidence, methodically not collecting evidence, selectively collecting evidence for a particular outcome) and manipulation of the evidence standard (e.g., especially preponderance of evidence). And this type of nefarious activity, regardless of the manner in which it is perpetrated, is a danger to any innocent person who finds himself or herself the subject of focus of a perpetrator or multiple perpetrators acting in collusion. Remember the smear campaign and humiliating hearing that Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was subjected to suspiciously and immediately after he was nominated by President Trump and just before he was confirmed?  Ohio Representative Jim Jordan did an excellent job separating fact from fiction by bringing into question the credibility of this witness, Ambassador Taylor.

And I am neither for or against an impeachment. My loyalty is with the truth. Whether or not President Donald Trump is guilty of an impeachable offense has yet to be proven. So far the presentation of questionable information and circumstantial evidence by heavily biased witnesses with what appears to be an ulterior motive has not convinced me of anything. The ulterior motive being a concerted effort to oust an outspoken, polarizing public figure from his post as the United States President.

U.S. Military Strong

I love messages of strength and determination; especially when they come from true life stories. Congratulations to my friend Kayley Portocarrero on making it into the U. S. Navy. Below is her story, written by her, regarding overcoming obstacles to achieve a goal; her dream of becoming a member of the U.S. Navy. Coincidentally I met Kayley when she contacted me regarding a story I wrote on this blog about one of my true life experiences with a Redondo Beach Firefighter/Paramedic. I wrote a post about the importance of telling your own story at
https://jacqibone.blogspot.com/2019/04/tell-your-own-story.html.

Strength and determination are among some of the core characteristics essential to being in the U.S. Armed Forces. Here is Kayley's story...

Kayley Portocarrero is at Fort Sam Houston.
November 8 at 6:40 PM

The day of August 29th I left for Navy boot camp; a day I honestly never thought would come. But let’s back up for a second. I had been trying to join the Navy for over a year at that point. I started my journey in May of 2018. I had to lose a ton of weight to even be considered. That was my first goal. Once I hit where I knew I could join, I walked into the recruiting station with no appointment, but a lot determination. This is what I want to do with my life. Fast forward to... October 2018, after many tests and evaluations Big Navy permanently disqualified me. I was upset and kept thinking to myself that I wasn’t good enough. I quickly got over that, and started researching how to get in the Navy as an Officer (the requirements can differ), so I started working on my degree again in order to reapply for the Navy. I kept going to the gym, kept myself accountable every single day. In April, my recruiter contacted me and told me that some changes had been made and I have another 50/50 shot of possibly enlisting. I was hesitant for about 0.5 seconds and thought: “fuck that, you’ve worked to hard to not give it another chance.” Another month goes by and I finally get approved and swore in to the Navy.

The last two months in boot camp were nothing like what I expected. I’ve never been such a negative environment before, but it turns out that I learned a lot about who I was in situations that stressed me out the most. I made some amazing friends, I learned that I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to. I’m so honored to be apart of the United States Navy, and glad the Navy took a chance on me. Now I’m at Fort Sam Houston ready to become a Hospital Corpsman. #navysailor #futurecorpsman #womeninuniform #militarywomen #usnavy

A Love Letter From Arnold Schwarzenegger To Franco Columbu

To My Best Friend

Franco,

You’ve heard me say that I don’t like when people call me a self-made man.

You’ve even heard me say that you’re part of the reason I could never accept that label.

But I wanted you to know why.

From the minute we met in Munich, you were my partner in crime. We pushed each other, we competed with each other, and we laughed at every moment along the way.

When I finally got to America, I was alone. I’d left my family, my country, my whole life behind. So when I asked Joe Weider to bring you to train with me, it was because I knew I wasn’t the same without my best friend. I could thrive without money, without my parents, but I couldn’t thrive without you.

I am devastated today. But I am also so, so grateful for the 54 years of friendship and joy we shared. The pumps, the chess games, the construction work, the meals, the pranks, the life lessons — we did it all together. We grew and we learned and we loved. My life was more fun, more colorful, and more complete because of you.

I will always miss you. But I’ll also know that a part of you lives on in me, in Debbie, in Maria, and in the millions of people you inspired every day you lived. And I will be there for Maria and Debbie, so you can rest now with no worries.

I love you Franco. I will always remember the joy you brought to my life, the advices you gave me, and the twinkle in your eye that never disappeared. You were my best friend.

Love always,

Arnold

In Memoriam Of Franco Columbu

Francesco "Franco" Columbu
8/7/1941 - 8/30/2019

Today was Franco's funeral so I am publishing this post in his memory to honor something he loved very much which was his friendship with Arnold.

Loyalty is a very important aspect of friendship. This glimpse into Arnold and Franco’s friendship of over 50 years is sweet.  And to those of us who are avid bodybuilding fans, trained at Gold’s Venice and hung around in the streets of Venice Beach and the Venice Beach boardwalk, this video has a more significant meaning. As for me, having proudly done legal work for The Oak along with Patrick Knapp Schwarzenegger, and having been close friends with the late Joe Gold, this video warms my heart just a little extra.

Rest In Peace Francesco "Franco" Columbu

It saddens me to announce that my special friend Franco Columbu passed away today August 30, 2019 in Italy. It was reported that he suffered a heart attack while swimming and consequently drowned just off the coast of San Teodoro, Sardinia, Italy. And I just got the chills writing this as "Teodoro" is my late father Efrain's middle name. Franco was so accomplished. During the span of his life he was a boxer, Olympic weightlifter, a powerlifter holding numerous world records, a professional bodybuilder winning the ultimate title of Mr. Olympia once in 1976 and again in 1981, and one of the strongest men in the world. He was a licensed Chiropractor, an author, an actor, a magazine cover model many times over and the best friend of The Oak (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger). He was a husband and a father and my friend on Facebook. Above is the last post I received from him just yesterday.

Alma Deutscher's Piano Concerto World Debut

Yes, I, Jacqueline Sebiane, am obsessed with classical music. Just like the ocean, it is a part of my soul. And child prodigy Alma Deutscher (composer, pianist and violinist) inexplicably knocks it out of the park.

This is the world premiere of Alma's piano concerto in July 2017 at the Carinthian Summer Festival with Vienna Chamber Orchestra conductor Joji Hattori.

Alma's description of I - Allegro, II - Adagio and III - Allegro giocoso; the three movements of the concerto:

The first movement represents the conflict between darkness and light. The orchestral introduction has just two happy bars of E-flat major in the beginning, but it then plunges into darkness on the third bar. The rest of the introduction is in minor, but the entrance of the piano brings back the light, with a much happier version of the orchestral theme. The darkness tries to come back at some points, especially at the very end, but the light finally overcomes it.

The main theme of the second movement came to me when I was very sad, I was improvising on my grandmother’s piano a few days after she died. The movement is in a rather unusual key, B-flat minor, which is perhaps not so comfortable for the orchestra, but it's the key in which I first heard the melody in my head, and I did not want to change it.

The third movement is a set of variations on a theme which I heard in the middle of the night when I was eight years old. During the movement, there is quite a lot of argument between the soloist and the orchestra. But in the end, the soloist and the orchestra make peace, and continue playing happily together.

LVMPD - K9 Love

K9 snuggle! "Arko" is a 2-year-old Dutch Shepard from the Netherlands who LOVES catching bad guys as a member of LVMPD's K9 Section. But the job can get a little stressful for everyone involved -- and that's why a good snuggle and pep-talk at the start of every shift is helpful. Arko and Sgt. Eric Hutchason make a great team. Good luck guys!! And thank you for helping our department take a bite out of crime.
