From Amsterdam With Love

I am intrigued by Jesse Meester. Despite his obvious good looks, I love how he thinks. He is so deep. I, too, believe that mediation is very beneficial; mind, body and soul.  Silence and mediation are so powerful with respect to inner peace, nurturing your soul and getting in touch with your authentic self.

Cultural Differences

This is such a gorgeous photo of my friend Surbhi who is from Ludhiana, Punjab, India. If only all people could embrace the cultural differences among us and learn to appreciate the beauty in each of the disparate lands God put on this planet as a gift.

#VegasStrong

Statement From MGM CEO Jim Murren

We are heartbroken for the victims, their families and our community.

MGM Resorts·Monday, October 2, 2017

Our primary focus and concern in the hours since the shooting has been cooperating with law enforcement and taking actions to support the victims and their families, our guests and employees.

We have made counselors available, created a dedicated hotline to ensure out of town families of victims can arrange airfare and hotel accommodations to get to their loved ones, assisted guests whose travel has been disrupted, identified local transportation for guests who wish to donate blood or visit the injured, to just a few of the things we are presently engaged in.

These efforts and more are being organized aggressively and are ongoing as we continue to get information and identify need.

We’re grateful for all who have helped - first responders, the police and citizens who have acted in countless ways to assist.

While information is still being gathered we are beginning to hear stories of great courage and humanity. We know that without the swift and brave actions of first responders the scale of damage would have been much greater. We know that in the midst of chaos and fear people acted to protect and save others – those they knew and those they did not.

In the coming days we will hear more of these stories as we grieve for the victims of this unspeakable tragedy.

We’re working with law enforcement in every way possible.

At the moment, we are deferring communications about the investigation to the FBI and Las Vegas Metro PD.

Please pray for all the victims of this horrific event, our Las Vegas community, and all our employees who are working tirelessly to provide support at a very difficult time.

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD & CEO

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Hard At Work

Law enforcement is a vital function. Incidents like these are why, as civilians, we must support and assist the men and women who risk their lives daily to protect ours. Thank you Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for your direct and collaborative efforts with other law enforcement agencies in responding to this emergency situation yesterday and for your active investigation of this case. Thank you for restoring order and for your hard work in keeping the citizens and visitors of Vegas safe.

My heart aches for the innocent victims of this heinous crime.

Yes, I Love Opera

Plácido Domingo, the internationally renowned opera singer, conductor, National Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and winner of 12 Grammy awards, will receive the UCLA Medal, the campus’ highest honor, on November 12 during a medal ceremony and master class at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.

“Plácido Domingo’s contributions to the world of opera as a singer, conductor, administrator and educator are unparalleled,” said UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, who will present the award. “He has been a powerful champion for the arts in Los Angeles for five decades, and his exceptional commitment to arts education embodies UCLA’s highest ideals.”

Domingo made his American debut in 1961 singing Arturo in “Lucia di Lammermoor” with the Dallas Civic Opera. Four years later, he earned national acclaim singing the title role in the U.S. premiere of Alberto Ginastera’s “Don Rodrigo” at the New York City Opera. His Metropolitan Opera debut, two years later, was the first of more than 800 singing and conducting engagements at the Met.

Hailed by Newsweek as the “King of Opera,” Domingo has sung 148 different roles in more than 3,900 performances in the world’s greatest opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera, where he received 101 curtain calls, spanning 80 minutes, after a performance of Verdi’s “Otello” in 1991.

Domingo has often professed his love for Los Angeles, and he has made substantial contributions to the city’s cultural life. He has performed in every Los Angeles Opera season since 1986. But his first appearance here was at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on November 17, 1967, in the New York City Opera’s touring production of “Don Rodrigo.” On November 17, 2017, LA Opera will host a 50th anniversary concert to commemorate that performance.

His talents extend well beyond his performing and recording career. As an opera administrator, Domingo has played an essential role in making regional American companies into internationally recognized ensembles. In particular, he has been a vital presence in LA Opera’s artistic administration since even before the company’s first public performances in 1986. He served as artistic consultant from 1984 to 2000 and artistic director from 2001 to 2003. In 2003, he was named the Eli and Edythe Broad General Director, a position he is contracted to hold through the 2021–22 season.

Domingo also uses his powerful voice to champion the arts and mentor young artists and singers in Los Angeles and around the world. He is chairman of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which represents the interests of the recording industry; is president of Europa Nostra, which brings together Europe’s growing cultural heritage movement; and is on the board of trustees of the National YoungArts Foundation, which supports American high school graduates in all artistic disciplines.

Since 1993, Domingo has promoted talented young singers through his annual Operalia voice competition, which gives 40 singers the opportunity to perform before an international jury. The competition has helped launch the careers of such notable artists as Joyce DiDonato, Rolando Villazón, Erwin Schrott and Isabel Bayrakdarian. He is also the founder of the Domingo–Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Washington National Opera, the Domingo–Colburn–Stein Young Artist Program at the LA Opera and the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo at the Palau de las Arts in Valencia, Spain.

“Music has been my life and it gives me indescribable joy to share it with others,” Domingo said. “More than anything else, watching music inspire young people brings me so much fulfillment. I am passionate about nurturing talent and giving opportunities to promising young performers, and if I could only hope to give back half of what music has given me, I would be filled with gratitude.”

Domingo’s gifts as an educator have had a profound impact on young singers across the globe, including at UCLA. In 1994, he was an adjunct professor in UCLA’s department of music, leading choral and orchestral master classes. Among the students he inspired was Angel Blue, who earned a master of music degree from UCLA in 2008, and who has since graced many of the great European concert halls. Blue, who debuts as Mimì in “La Bohème” at the Metropolitan Opera in October, also participated in the Domingo–Colburn–Stein program from 2007 to 2009.

“Domingo’s remarkable passion for mentoring young artists and his dedication to enabling singers to realize their full potential is invaluable to the future of opera,” said Judith Smith, dean of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. “His commitment to young singers and musicians throughout the world is extraordinary.”

The UCLA Medal ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on November 12 in UCLA’s Schoenberg Hall (map). It will be followed immediately by a 45-minute master class with the maestro, two students from UCLA’s voice and opera program and two singers from the Domingo–Colburn–Stein program. The ceremony and master class are free and open to the public, but advance reservations are required. Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-seated basis.

The UCLA Medal was established in 1979 and is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by UCLA. It is awarded to those who have earned academic and professional acclaim, and whose work demonstrates the highest ideals of UCLA. Past recipients include music luminaries Ella Fitzgerald, Henry Mancini, Herb Alpert and Quincy Jones, as well as writer Toni Morrison, President Bill Clinton, architect I.M. Pei, UCLA basketball coach John Wooden, Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun and UCLA alumna and astronaut Anna Lee Fisher.

From Stallone To Schwarzenegger

That's such a nice sentiment Sly. I am going to share it with his nephew Patrick Knapp Schwarzenegger who is my friend and who I worked with intimately at Bloom, Dekom, et al. directly for Jake Bloom and directly on both of your contracts when each of you were at the height of your careers. You are both legendary action stars just from a different origin. The fans love both of you. Being in Italy with Tony Munafo and Raffaella DeLaurentiis and watching you work up close on the set at Cinecitta Movie Studio was one of the highlights of my life.

Beautiful Images; Positive Thoughts

Fill Your Life With Joy Not Despair

I am sure you’ve heard the saying “just get over it.” This is an ineffective way to deal with an issue, event or person’s behavior toward you that has negatively impacted you. As human beings we have emotions and the things that happen to us in our lives affect us. Pretending that something that affected you did not is only pushing that experience and associated emotion deep into your subconscious mind and it will inevitably surface in your behavior or self-destructive choices. People process their pain through many channels like anger, isolation, over eating, drugs, alcohol, sexual promiscuity, excessive spending, etc.

So if something is bothering you, don’t ignore it. Make sure to let it out by talking about it with someone willing to listen in non-judgment or writing about it in a journal. I have been writing in a journal since my early 20s. Let it out for as long as it takes, then move on and focus on your blessings. You deserve to live a life filled with joy not despair.

Let Freedom Ring

LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS…

Happy 4th Of July From Sylvester Stallone

In Observance Of Independence Day 2017

These are beautiful, authentic sentiments I originally wrote and posted on July 4, 2014. I did not borrow these thoughts or words from anyone or anywhere. I wrote them from the heart and I have been re-posting them since as the overall message is very powerful...

Today is a traditional American holiday deeply rooted in history with freedom as the theme.  What does freedom mean to you?

Freedom means everything to me.  Freedom to think, to feel and to be. Freedom to express myself verbally, physically, emotionally and sexually. Freedom to be me and express myself through fashion, hair styles, music and dance.  Freedom to laugh and to love who I want and how I want.  Freedom to love myself and honor my feelings. Freedom to choose and make decisions. Freedom to say yes, to say no and to say good-bye if I need to.  Freedom to live how I want to live.

Freedom from evil, hatred and injustice.  Freedom from negativity, conflict, turmoil and toxic people. Freedom from debt, control, oppression, fear, self-loathing, self-doubt, obsession, addiction, affliction, illness and the past.  One of the wisest things I have ever heard is “Your tormentor today is yourself left over from yesterday.” Let go of the past; including painful events and the people who hurt you. Take the shackles off yourself and go and live a beautiful life no matter what obstacles come your way.  God bless you and God bless America.

A Love Letter From A Father To His Gay Son

This is a beautiful love letter from my good friend John Marzka to his son Jordan. Since we all perceive messages through our own unique filter based on our belief system and how we were raised, take what you will from this letter. The message conveyed to me is the unconditional love that a parent has for his child. We all want to be acknowledged and understood. Every human being deserves to live their life in a dignified manner. And these powerful messages deserve the attention of my blog being viewed all around the world.

OG Bodybuilding Diva Rachel McLish

It is hard to believe that Rachel McLish, the original bodybuilding diva, has turned 62 years old. [For those of you who don't know who she is, she is on the right holding the 2.] Rachel’s beauty and elegance in the competitive world of female bodybuilding made it okay for women to lift weights while still embracing their femininity conquering stereotypes that weightlifting is only for men. Her positive attitude about aging is an excellent example for all people, in particular women, who are getting older to repudiate ageism and not allow it to affect their self-esteem. Aging is a natural progression of life.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Attorney General Sessions Announces Creation of National Public Safety Partnership to Combat Violent Crime

As the Department of Justice continues its efforts to fulfill President Trump’s commitment to reducing violent crime in America, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced today that 12 cities are joining the Department’s newly organized National Public Safety Partnership (PSP). The announcement came during the opening session of a national summit organized by the Attorney General’s Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety. The summit convened federal, state and local law enforcement to discuss how to support and replicate successful local violent crime reduction efforts.
“Turning back the recent troubling increase in violent crime in our country is a top priority of the Department of Justice and the Trump Administration, as we work to fulfill the President’s promise to make America safe again,” said Attorney General Sessions. “The Department of Justice will work with American cities suffering from serious violent crime problems. There is no doubt that there are many strategies that are proven to reduce crime. Our new National Public Safety Partnership program will help these communities build up their own capacity to fight crime, by making use of data-driven, evidence-based strategies tailored to specific local concerns, and by drawing upon the expertise and resources of our Department.”
The Justice Department created PSP and the task force in response to President Trump’s February 9, 2017, Executive Order charging the agency with leading a national effort to combat violent crime. The partnership provides a framework for enhancing federal support of state, local and tribal law enforcement officials and prosecutors as they aggressively investigate and pursue violent criminals, specifically those involved in gun crime, drug trafficking and gang violence.
Twelve sites have been selected to receive this significant assistance:
  • Birmingham, Alabama
  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Memphis, Tennessee
  • Toledo, Ohio
  • Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  • Buffalo, New York
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Houston, Texas
  • Jackson, Tennessee
  • Kansas City, Missouri
  • Lansing, Michigan
  • Springfield, Illinois
We anticipate announcing additional sites this calendar year.
The Justice Department agencies involved in PSP are the United States Attorneys’ Offices, Office of Justice Programs; the FBI; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the U.S. Marshals Service; the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Office on Violence Against Women; and the Office of Community Oriented Policing.

Prince William And Lady Gaga On Mental Health

I am convinced that Almighty God conveys important messages to the masses through people’s fame. Lady Gaga bravely opening up to the world about her mental health has inspired many to be honest about their direct or indirect experiences with mental health issues.

In recent months, my ex-love Christian Evans, who was formerly married to actress and talk show host Ricki Lake, did the unthinkable and ended his own life. In his solitude he was not feeling well and apparently did not seek help for his issues.

So if you are experiencing abnormal, debilitating or overwhelming feelings, it is important that you understand that as human beings we are not perfect and it is okay to talk about it. Just do so in a safe, judgment free environment with someone you trust.

Positive Vibes By Jacqueline Sebiane

I like what Lady Gaga is doing with her fame so I am sharing the love on my worldwide platform. Her non-profit organization, Born This Way Foundation, has partnered on a meaningful project in an effort to start a kindness movement. Here is the official information about the project:

“On June 26th, 2016 Born This Way Foundation co-founder Lady Gaga joined philanthropist Phil Anschutz and His Holiness the Dalai Lama to challenge America’s cities to be kind. The panel met in front of more than 200 mayors from across the county, where they discussed the role that kindness can play in improving the mental health of citizens, and how current “cities of kindness” – like Anaheim, California – have also experienced a decrease in crime.
As a result of this discussion, the mayors voted unanimously to commit to 100 billion acts of kindness across the country. To help support this ambitious goal, Born This Way Foundation is proud to be a part of City of Kindness – an organization launched with the leadership of Mayor Tom Tait of Anaheim, one of the driving forces behind the kindness movement. Mayor Tait ran on a platform of kindness and won. To hear more about his story, check out his guest post for Channel Kindness.
Cities across the country are embracing the tangible power of kindness, bringing together community leaders, elected officials, and young people to create positive change. Want your city to join the movement? Tell your mayor you’re ready to make your city a City of Kindness!”

BFF's Franco Columbu and Arnold Schwarzenegger

Loyalty is a very important aspect of friendship. This glimpse into Arnold and Franco’s friendship of 51 years is adorable. And to those of us who are avid bodybuilding fans, trained at Gold’s Venice and hung around in the streets of Venice Beach and the Venice Beach boardwalk, this video has a more significant meaning. As for me, having proudly done legal work for The Oak along with Patrick Knapp Schwarzenegger, and having been close friends with the late Joe Gold, this video warms my heart just a little extra.

For All The Lovers In The World...

This is a beautiful, meaningful love song and one of my favorite songs of all time. If someone loves you like this, don’t ever take it for granted. And if you love someone so much it hurts and feels good at the same time, hold on to that special feeling forever.

Kiss Your Father By Jacqueline Sebiane

On Father's Day 2015, I traveled to Vegas. My daddy wanted a cologne from the Chanel Boutique at Bellagio as a Father's Day gift. BLEU DE CHANEL is the last gift he received from me before he passed away on 10/9/2015. He was so excited, like a little boy on his birthday, when I gave him this present wrapped up all pretty. The bottle of cologne was left behind in his belongings when he passed. I sometimes take in the fragrant aroma to remind me of my father. And even though he is not physically here, the love he gave me over my lifetime is in my heart forever. If your father is still alive, make sure you hug and kiss your father. Tell him you love him.

Give Love Not Hate

Have you ever heard the saying every tormentor is your teacher? I learned it from Deepak Chopra. If you’ve ever come face to face with hatred or been the unwarranted recipient of mistreatment, remember how it made you feel and NEVER be like that. Let that experience have the opposite effect on you. Become hypersensitive to how you treat people. Spread kindness and love not evil and hatred.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

My life is like a book; a real page turner. June 15, 2017 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. This is a very sensitive subject for me as my siblings have for a period of time been methodically engaging in collusion to take advantage of my elderly mom over what they perceive to be entitlement to an inheritance. Most recently they took her by deception and have been keeping her away from her legal residence for over one month now. This gang of dastardly outlaws includes a Los Angeles Police Officer who should have never worked one day in law enforcement given his past with federal prisoner Colin Nathanson. These not-so-smart cohorts have been taking advantage of my mom's vulnerabilities and having her sign documents while in a diminished emotional and physical state in an attempt to assume a forced fiduciary over her to get at her real property. No one wants to sit idly by and watch an unfortunate situation like this unfold. Know, however, that God leaves no stone unturned. It is only a matter of time before these individuals are held accountable for their actions.

So even if there are no elderly or dependent adults in your immediate family, please do what you can to advocate for the vulnerable. Here is some information on the L.A. County campaign for Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month:

Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services, in collaboration with the California Association of Area Agencies on Aging (C4A), California Welfare Directors Association (CWDA), the California District Attorneys Association (CDAA) and other partners, intends to raise awareness of the escalating epidemic of elder and dependent adult abuse by launching a month-long education and resource campaign during June. The month-long campaign coincides with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day celebrated annually on June 15.

We need your support! By working together we can amplify the awareness campaign here in Los Angeles County and ensure that older and dependent adults are given the respect, protection and justice they deserve.

Here are some ways you can support this campaign:

1. Post the “Don’t Miss the Signs of Abuse” poster in your offices and share it with your colleagues and community partners.

2. Wear Purple to work on June 15 in honor of WEAAD.

3. Place the campaign logos in your email signature block during the month of June.

4. Make a difference in the lives of vulnerable adults in your community by spreading the word of abuse awareness to your friends, family and neighbors.

5. Connect with WDACS and other partners during June via Twitter @LACountyWDACS and on Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/LACountyWDACS/ and tweet/post using the hashtags #WEAAD2017 and #StopElderAbuse

Karma By Jacqueline Sebiane

Have you ever been on the receiving end of something that wasn't right? Or perhaps you've witnessed a person, group of people or an organization doing something unsavory, improper or downright illegal. If you have, don’t do anything. Always take the high road. Just sit back and observe. Wrongdoers are most assuredly the masters of their own demise. Karma is real. What goes around, comes around. Enjoy Karma Police by Radiohead. The imagery by performing artists is usually over the top but the message is clear if you pay attention.

Life Is A Gift

On 9/9/2015 my beautiful father had a severe ischemic stroke. For an entire month he laid virtually motionless unable to eat food or drink water until he succumbed to his condition and circumstances on 10/9/2015. The brain injury was sudden, immediate and irreversible. There were no do overs. To look into my hero's his eyes and know that he knew he had no future was devastating. It was the most painful thing I have ever experienced and my perspective on life changed forever. Thank you Tim McGraw for these beautiful, powerful messages.

Tim McGraw Using The Power Of Words

I like what Tim McGraw represents. Finding the good in someone or uplifting a person who is downtrodden is the best feeling in the world.

Like A Stone I'll Wait For You There Alone

A Rock N Roll legend gone in an instant. R.I.P. Chris Cornell.

On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go

In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone I'll wait for you there
Alone
