For years there has been discrimination and mistreatment of disparate groups of people (i.e., Italians, Hispanic people, Jewish people, Asian people, black people, homosexuals, transgenders, LPs (i.e., little people), overweight people,  the elderly, the impoverished, etc.). This is simply unacceptable. We cannot rewrite history and we cannot erase hatred but we can educate the ignorant and lead by example. Be an example and do not perpetuate ignorance.

Mama June Rocking The House

June Shannon, aka Mama June, is in the house! Mama June started off as a hillbilly welfare mother who came on the scene through the TV show Toddlers and Tiaras with her then young daughter Alana Thompson who she use to enter in pageants to earn extra money. Unbeknownst to Mama June this simple act would be the vehicle through which she and her family would be discovered and offered a TV show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." This was a simple, silly show about their redneck, hillbilly lifestyle which at the time was exploding on the reality TV scene. With success of the show came the trappings of money, fame and opportunists looking to capitalize off that money and fame. Soon thereafter came the downfall that mixing with the wrong people usually brings causing that show to be cancelled indefinitely. Luckily for Mama June and her family, Hollywood came knocking again for the second chance at a show "Mama June From Not To Hot" which showcased the road to her physical transformation. Then came the second downfall through her boyfriend Geno Doak which was drug use, addiction, reckless financial decisions and yes legal problems which included jail. Then came a spinoff "Mama June Road To Redemption" which captured, you guessed it, her road to redemption wherein Mama June conquered her drug addiction and escaped a prison sentence for her drug charges. Now cut to today... Mama June is thriving. I love a good come back story. To quote the Jersey Shore's Mike Sorrentino who also successfully emerged from a downward spiral (i.e., addiction and jail)... "the comeback is greater than the setback."

So, if you are struggling and have made some ugly mistakes, remember that you can always turn it around if you learn from those mistakes and make a concerted effort to have a better life. Out of the darkness emerges the light. The light always shines through the darkness.

It's Alright To Feel Lost Sometimes

Heed the message in this story which stopped Simon Cowell in his tracks. The message may be different for each one of you as we all experience and view life from our own unique perspectives. What pulled at my heart strings was the message in the song being beautifully sung by this frail young woman who obviously was, and still is, very ill with the real possibility of death before her. At any moment of any given time this could be anyone of us. If you are healthy, be thankful and empathetic towards those who are not well. If you are ill, be hopeful and pray that God be merciful with the gift that is your life.

Erika Jayne, wife of Los Angeles based attorney Tom Girardi, has been flaunting her supposed wealth on the TV show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for several years now. On the show she flagrantly displays her opulent lifestyle and often boasts of her husband's legal skills. The web of lies that was Erika Jayne's and Tom Girardi's seemingly perfect life has now been exposed as a result of the State Bar of California taking legal action against Girardi for having allegedly embezzled millions upon millions of dollars from his clients to whom he owed a fiduciary duty. This is a powerful docuseries with a very creative title. People often wear a social veneer to conform to societal norms in a quest for acceptance when in reality they are masking deep internal pain which eventually manifests in destructive ways (e.g., addiction, depression, suicide, abnormal aggression, violence against others, murder, etc.). Mental health issues stem from a variety of sources such as psychological trauma or genetic disorders; some of which are hereditary. We need to stop referring to people with mental health issues and disorders in a derogatory fashion. How many times have you described someone as a psycho or told someone they were crazy as a put down? You need only to watch the evening news to understand that there is a mental health crisis going on in the world (e.g., the harming of helpless animals, the torturing, rape and/or murder of innocent children, violent attacks on the homeless, arsonists starting destructive fires, freeway shootings, mass shootings, etc.). We can only begin to tackle this monster by addressing the underlying issue of mental illness in an intelligent, constructive manner. And this all starts with a frank, non-judgmental discussion. The stakes are too high to ignore this any further.

The Ugly Truth About LAPD Detective Jerry Gibson (Serial No. 32645)

I waited a long time before I decided to post this letter that I received from LAPD Lieutenant Nicholas Sinibaldi in regards to LAPD Detective Jerry Gibson who I had a personal relationship with until he exercised poor judgement and decided to threaten me because he wasn't getting what he was persistently pursuing. Lt. Sinibaldi is one of the very few sworn personnel of the LAPD that I have interacted with who has integrity; and I have interacted with a lot. Little did Lt. Sinibaldi know at the time he wrote this that years later it would become an evidentiary document that would catch several sworn personnel of the LAPD (including Gibson himself and his former commanding officer Deputy Chief Peter Zarcone) making false statements, manufacturing content in official government documents (including in e-files) then generating further false and misleading documentation to cover up the later. Zarcone was also my brother Frank's commanding officer when he made false statements of a significant nature in a now evidentiary document to cover up an incident related to my father's untimely death as a consequence of the negligence and dereliction of duty of Sgt. The letter you received is one of a handful of form letters that could be sent out after a complaint is adjudicated.  Unfortunately, the wording in these letters is prescribed based one of a few possible adjudications.  We have no leeway in changing the wording they contain.  In some cases, the letters people receive from the police department may seem at odds with what they expected, but that is often because the letters are not allowed to be customized to suit every situation.  So, the letter which comes closest to describing the police department's findings is what is sent out to people who have made complaints.  

In this case, you made it clear you wished no action to be taken against Detective Gibson.  Therefore, the letter was the best one to accommodate your strongly expressed wish that the matter not affect him or his career.  If the letter had said he was guilty of something specific, that would have had a serious impact on his career.  Recall that you called me to insist that nothing happen to him.  Classifying the complaint as "Unfounded" satisfies your request that nothing happen to him. 

Please be assured that Gibson's record accurately reflects everything that you said (it was all on tape).  It was all fully documented and thoroughly reviewed starting with two police lieutenant's, then to his Captain, and all the way up to the level of a Deputy Chief.   There has not been anything that wasn't examined.  The police department spent several weeks working on your complaint.  Believe me, a lot of work already went into this. 

Gibson has been ordered not to ever contact you again, so please do not expect an apology from him.  Let me apologize on his and the Department's behalf.  We are all sorry this ever happened. 

As to the letter being detrimental to you, that is not the case.  The letter is confidential and has not, and will not be seen by anyone other than yourself, the person who signed it, and the clerk who filed it away.  We process thousands of these letters and have an unblemished record when it comes to their confidentiality.

There is nothing I can do beyond explaining the process, so I hope this was helpful.  If you have any more questions, please let me know..

As a UCLA graduate in the discipline of Psychology, I am am a firm believer in the importance of not just knowing but also in acknowledging and understanding what happened to you particularly in early life and how it has affected you. One of the things I admire most about Oprah Winfrey is her advocacy for victims of psychological trauma and how she uses her fame and platform to help people in pain. Together with renowned brain development and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry, Oprah has co-written a book about trauma and healing. The healing part is critical to personal fulfillment in your journey of life.

I am very thankful that throughout most of my life I had the privilege of living in racially mixed neighborhoods, going to racially mixed schools and working at racially mixed companies and law firms. And throughout the journey of my life, I have had many different close friends, male and female, of different ethnicities (i.e., White, English, Irish, Italian, German, Austrian, Australian, Dutch, American Indian, Jewish, Spanish, Persian, Samoan, Japanese, Filipino, African American, etc.). This molded me into a well-rounded, open-minded person sensitive to all cultures and to all ethnicities. My wish for all of humanity is that people can learn to see others through that unique lens.

Ask yourself this question: do I feel good or bad when I am around or engage with this certain person or group of people? Are you better or worse after having had that interaction or experience? If you feel bad or are worse, you should eliminate that person or group of people from your life. If you are in a toxic environment or situation (e.g., such as a hostile work environment or unhealthy relationship), politely bow out as soon as is reasonably possible. Know your worth. Only surround yourself with people who uplift you, inspire you and make you better. Your life has a value. Go out and flourish.

Advocating For The Underdog

Ever since I was a little girl I have always advocated for the underdog. I have always defended those being bullied. I have always stood up for those being mistreated. I have always leant an ear to those who have needed to talk. I have always been friendly to the friendless. I have always been attentive to children and compassionate to the elderly. My empathy for others comes from being mistreated as a child by my older siblings who were jealous of me because I was the baby and my parents' favorite child. I was treated with a lot of hatred by my siblings just because I was alive. One sibling in particular, Liz Sebiane, was so mean to me that she was actually dangerous and my father was afraid to leave me alone with her when we were children. And all throughout my life that sibling was fixated on me and incessantly harassed me and tried to damage my life to the point that it became a serious legal matter. Remember the jealous sister in the movie The Bodyguard starring Whitney Houston who wanted Whitney's character (i.e., Rachel Marron) dead? It has been just like that. 

In the face of hatred throughout my childhood, however, the opposite happened to me. I learned to be kind, loving, respectful, sensitive to people's feelings and empathetic towards others.

Feeling Weird, Out Of Sorts Or Overwhelmed

If you feel weird, out of sorts or overwhelmed do not be embarrassed or ashamed to talk about it with a trusted source or to seek help (i.e., support, guidance, etc.). Let's take the stigma out of being human. We are living in very complicated, stressful times and we are not equipped as human beings to handle so much all of the time without being affected personally.  We often talk about physical health but what about our mental health? It is not a sign of weakness to admit to yourself or others that you are not okay. There is an unequivocal connection between our mind, body and soul. And if you want to be a balance person, you must be cognizant of all three.

Do you ever think about the struggles your parents went through, separately or together, so you could have a better life? If they are still alive hug them, tell them you appreciate everything they have done for you and that you love them because death is very permanent. People always talk about the way their parents have failed them but what about the way children have failed their parents? Sometimes our parents are hurting; feeling undervalued, unappreciated and lonely. 

My parents, who grew up in poverty, emigrated to the USA and became American citizens by proper legal process. This was no easy task as they first had to learn to speak, read and write the English language. Feeling separated from their country in a foreign land and facing seemingly insurmountable challenges and discrimination at every trajectory, they worked tirelessly as a team to provide for their family. And when their financial status progressed, they were extremely generous in ensuring that we were all set up to be successful in life. I was born in America because of my parents, am a college graduate of UCLA and a homeowner because of them. My brother, who was not born in America, was given everything by my parents, including a custom built home, and was able to become a Los Angeles Police Officer with a very generous retirement package despite not being a college graduate. He is set up for life but never did right by my parents. My siblings, who have a very misguided sense of entitlement, were and are horrible to my parents. And my beautiful father, who was the victim of foul play by one or more of my siblings, is no longer alive and all of his money that my mother needs for her life and was legally entitled to as a beneficiary is suspiciously gone. https://jacqibone.blogspot.com/2019/06/elder-abuse-alert-lisbeth-liz-sebiane.html  And no police agency or governmental entity protected my parents. This is just heartbreaking to me as my parents deserve the world; especially respect.
